Shower The People – The Music of James Taylor

“Please welcome the blueprint, Mr, James Taylor!” These were the words of renowned pop artist John Mayer as he introduced James Taylor at the Grammy awards for a performance with Yo-Yo Ma. Few artists could garner such an accolade and the respect of their peers as does James Taylor. He remains the quintessential American singer/song writer to this day after a storied career spanning more than four decades. His signature acoustic guitar virtuosity combined with his unique warm and comforting vocal sound continues to make him a relevant artist to this very day. In an era when tribute acts of virtually every successful recording artist are available in droves, JT’s own music stylings have remained the singular opportunity to hear his incredible song book in a live setting – UNTIL NOW!

“SHOWER THE PEOPLE” is a faithfully rendered presentation of more than two dozen James Taylor classics from his iconic pop masterpiece “Fire And Rain” to the Carole King treasure “You’ve Got A Friend”. Audiences will be enveloped by the sound of the voice and the songs that have become entrenched as part of the musical landscape of our lives. The presentation takes the audience through a retrospective journey of JT’s music and reveals anecdotal information about the history and creative process behind many of these musical gems providing much more entertainment value than the uncannily precise rendering of the music itself.

“SHOWER THE, PEOPLE” features the voice and guitar work of Neil Donell. Respected as Canada’s premier session vocalist and referred to in the media as the “man of a thousand voices” and the “most recorded voice in Canada” Mr. Donell has been a life long fan of James Taylor and his meticulous performance of the troubadour’s art will leave audiences mesmerized. Accompanied by a group of four of the most accomplished musicians and singers in the country “Shower the People” will appeal to a very wide demographic audience as JT’s musical appeal bridges virtually every cultural or gender gap one might consider. So go ahead, close your eyes, you’ll be amazed at what you’re hearing.

FEATURING:

NEIL DONELL – lead vocals & acoustic guitar

“You blew me away!” These were the words of internationally renowned music producer David Foster when he first heard Neil Donell perform at Toronto’s legendary Club Bluenote in the eighties. High praise indeed, yet such accolades are commonplace for this highly respected and sought-after singer.

Originally hailing from Montreal, Neil has gone on to establish himself as the premier session vocalist in Canada. A veteran of more than ten thousand recording sessions, this multiple Juno Award nominee is often referred to in the media as “the most recorded voice in the country,” and is introduced as “the man of a thousand voices” at the dozens of pop symphony concerts he performs annually across North America.

Possessed of an uncanny ability for mimicry, and with better than four octaves at his disposal, he has, over the years, been called upon to reproduce the voices of literally hundreds of other artists — his repertoire spanning Bolton to Bennett to Bocelti and everyone in between – all the while moving effortlessly between virtually every musical genre. An accomplished songwriter, producer, vocal coach and arranger, Neil makes his home in Toronto, Canada.

LOU POMANTI – keyboards

Composer, producer, musician, gemini award winner and 5 time nominee, Lou Pomanti is highly respected nationwide as one of the country’s finest musical talents. With over 25 years of credits in scoring, songwriting and performing, his expertise has awarded him hundreds of musical projects for film, television and album work.  Lou has performed with such varied and renowned artists as Leonard Cohen, Anne Murray, Michael Buble and Gordon Lightfoot to name but a very few.  Most recently, Lou was enlisted to do the orchestrations for Michael Buble’s smash albums “Crazy Love” and “To be Loved” which both debuted at No. 1 on the billboard charts and included the worldwide hit, “Haven’t Met You Yet”.  Since 2003, Lou has also been the musicial director for the “Canadian Songwriters’ Hall of Fame”, directing and performing with a stellar lineup of inductees including Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, and performing with James Taylor, Herbie Hancock and Micheal Buble among many, many others.

His second solo CD (“Energy Over Distance” – 20141features Bob playing original songs he has written for solo acoustic guitar. His performance of 3 of these songs at the Canadian Guitar Festival won him the title of 2014 Ganadian Guitar Fingerstyle Champion..

JAY SPEZIALE – bass + backing vocals

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Jay Speziale fell in love with music at the age of six. After years of accordion instruction, Jay “couldn’t take it any more,” and talked his dad into letting him take drum lessons. After a stint in a local marching band, and yet another instrumental switch (this time to bass), Jay started a small ensemble of musicians and learned all the music of — shades of things to come! — Chicago, Lighthouse, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Sly and the Family Stone.

Jay moved to Toronto in 1977, and began his full-time playing career in earnest. He co-founded the acclaimed R&B band Backstreet in 1985, and played with sixties greats Billy J. Kramer, Lou Christie, Del Shannon, the Mamas and the Papas, Peter Noone, Ben E. King, the Marvelettes, Leslie Gore, the Drifters, the Platters and Tommy Roe.

PAUL DELONG – drums

Best known for his multi-platinum success with rock artist Kim Mitchell, Paul DeLong has forged a career which encompasses funk, fusion, jazz and Latin music, working with such diverse artists as Tom Scott, Domenic Troiano, David Blamires, Lawrence Gowan, Carlos Del Junco, Carol Welsman, Dave Restivo, Nick “Brownman” Ali, Colin Wilkinson, Doug Riley, Hilario Duran, David Clayton-Thomas, Roger Hodgson and the Canadian Tenors, to name a few.
